Jesus’ Development—His Own Course
“And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and men.” Please read Luke 2:41-52.
He increased in wisdom and favor! He received more light and more wisdom. Because He didn’t have all the wisdom, does that mean that He sinned? Absolutely not! However, the very fact that He had put on flesh means that He had received a human will over which He continually received light and which was continually denied and condemned until nothing was found anymore in which He had not been tried and which He had not overcome.
Then we can understand the passage of Scripture in Hebrews 5:8 where it states that He learned obedience. Otherwise it would be both without meaning and incomprehensible that He needed to learn obedience. Then we can also understand what it says in Hebrews 12:2, that Jesus was the author and finisher of our faith—that He also underwent a development on the way of faith.
In the end He was perfected and had, through the obedience of faith, again attained to the fullness of the Godhead which He had renounced for our sake. He is our forerunner through the veil, which is His flesh! Heb. 6:19-20; also Chapter 10:20. We run after Him on the same way! What a race!!!
