Dear brother Aksel,
God’s grace and peace.

Thank you very much for your good letter. It was a joy to hear about Sr. Palme.

We have just had a visit from Br. Rasmussen from Copenhagen. He stayed here from Thursday to Sunday morning; then he went on to Kristiania. He is a very dear brother. He said himself that he has had a tendency to be very critical, but we came to the conclusion that a person who can correct the faults they see in a fatherly way, in all love, is greater than one who criticizes. We agreed on this point. How I wish that everyone who had received grace from God to divide the precious from the vile would use this ability to help God’s people instead of criticizing and driving them even further away. We have enough taskmasters, but there is a great lack of fathers in Christ Jesus. May we remember this!!!! It takes a mature mind to overlook offenses, insignificant mistakes, and many other things by which God’s people can be taken captive. Turning the ship’s wheel by two or three notches can change the ship’s course, but a lot of criticism about its course doesn’t help at all.

Mrs. Larsen from Kristiansand was here and passed on greetings from Father. Yesterday we had a meeting at Isachsen’s place, where a great many people were gathered. I’ve received letters from Br. Birkeland on the Tordenskiold; he is zealous regarding prayer. Br. Gunnerius Tollefsen sent a letter and two publications in English. Br. Ellefsen has actually visited him.

It is very clear to me that we are most at rest when our thoughts and our minds are totally in God. It is very clear to me that it is not a theological, intellectual exercise we are busy with, it is only what is revealed to us in the Holy Spirit. Of course, our thoughts must be somewhere, and we find no rest in the flesh; you know that very well. But my impression is that Br. Anthony doesn’t value this solid food, and so he suggests rest. But this rest he is suggesting (vacation rest) belongs more to the realm of the flesh than to the realm of the Spirit. May God give you grace not to give rest to those you come into contact with before they have found true rest. Vacation rest is the thing we have the least time for. Sr. Palme probably wanted rest as well, but she didn’t find any until she rested in God’s glorious truths.

The wisdom that is from above is first 1) pure, then 2) peaceable. Not first peaceable and then pure. People want a peaceful life just as they are, but the wisdom from above demands purity first.

Br. Rasmussen asked me to greet you warmly. He is heading to Copenhagen tomorrow on the Dronning Maud.

Greet Br. Anthony.

Heartfelt greetings to you from your brother battling in Christ,

Johan
