My dear son Johan and family!
Grace and peace!

I received your letter from the 3rd. Thank you. I should have answered you sooner, but I have been very busy in every way, and time got away from me.

Tell me, is Aksel with you? He left here for Larvik to visit Anthony about two weeks ago, and we haven’t heard from him since, even though I asked him to write right away and give us his address, because his mail is coming here. He said before he left that he would visit you on his way back to Kristiania. Have you seen him? Two letters and two publications have come for him here, as well as a bill from the post office, which is a postal collection for 20.25 kroner for the Dentists’ Charitable Association. I could easily pay it, but since I don’t know what he wants to do, the bill is still here. I would like his answer to this soon. Are you able to help with this? I am sending you Aksel’s letters today, since I am hoping you have his address.

I am hoping for a letter from you soon so we can hear how Aksel is doing. He hasn’t been sick, has he? If he is sick, he should come home. He is a bit weak, so it is not easy to know how he is doing. He looked fine when he left, so I am hoping for the best.

We are currently healthy and well. Mom was a bit sick and was in bed for a couple of days, but now she is more or less okay. It’s sad and lonely at home. I thank God and will continue to thank Him that the witness within my soul remains firm, so that I can rejoice in the Spirit at all times, even though not everything is particularly pleasant. Indeed, I’m not expecting anything for myself in this world, for I have learned to accept life as it is, full of both ups and downs. Now evening is drawing near, and I am going to get some rest, just as I also now have rest in my soul in Him who is my confidence and rest.

Greet the friends. Greet your wife and children. Write soon!

Sincerely, your father, mother, and sister at home,

Chr. J. Smith

Greet Aksel. Ask him to write soon—right away!
