Horten, December 5, 1909
Dear brother Aksel,
Grace and peace.

Thank you for your letter which I just received. I am happy to hear that you are resting and progressing, also when it comes to your physical condition; but there is one thing you still lack: you have not battled through to complete faith that God will heal you. God can restore your health in an instant, but unbelief is much harder to cure.

You cannot compare yourself to the paralyzed man who had lain there for 37 years, since it was the faith of those who carried him that Jesus looked at. In this instance, there is a believer lying there on the stretcher, fully aware, and you cannot just rely on the faith of those who carry you; you yourself must break through to full faith. For my part, I no longer have a battle regarding your sickness, because I know that God will remove it. However, I now have a battle with your unbelief as to whether it will happen.

You ask us to continue to pray for you, and you go on to say, “I believe the Lord will overcome.”

I do not believe at all that the illness itself is any match for God, so that it would be difficult for Him to overcome it, as if God’s power were reduced and at a lower level than the illness. When you believe that the Lord will overcome, then you must mean overcome unbelief in the heart, to believe that He is mighty to heal, and He will heal.

God’s healing is not directed at the body alone; He wants to heal a corresponding illness in the heart. That is why you can see that whenever Jesus healed people, they rejoiced and praised God with all their heart, because there was something in their heart that had also been healed. Let your task now be to battle through to complete faith for healing; then the Lord will heal you.

When Sr. Pauline Nilsen Roa was healed, we could sense in our spirit that she believed, and that is why it happened. Now it is up to you, no one else. You are the man who must break through.

This faith will increase your peace and joy, and thus belongs to the kingdom of heaven, which consists of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. And it is written that we must take the kingdom of heaven by force. I don’t think you have taken the kingdom of heaven by force at all in this matter, but now that time has come. “Come now, and let us reason together,” says the Lord. He wants us to radically press into Him. He wants us to test Him to see whether His promises are true or whether they are merely fables. He wants to see the matter brought to a head; for God Himself is radical, and He has no pleasure in seeing us wandering aimlessly when something is burdening our heart. “Ask, and it will be given to you . . . . ” Matt. 7:7. “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Matt. 7:8.

If you believe this, you already have what you desire, and you can pray with thanksgiving.

Let me see now that you are a man and are strong. Break through to full faith, and the Lord will reward you openly. Matt. 6:6.

Warm greetings from your brother, battling in Christ,

Johan
