Thank you very much for the two postcards. Father wrote in his letter that you often visit a mission school, or more accurately known as a Bible school.
It is vital that we remain in the liberty by which God has made us free. “You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men.” It is quite obvious that as a student one has to listen; but if the teacher is not a teacher of God, then the doctrine is not for the spirit but for the flesh. There is only one way to possess the knowledge of God; namely, to receive the knowledge of God by and through the spirit of revelation. Eph. 1:17. God is a Spirit, and His knowledge is imparted in the Spirit, as are His love and all the other divine attributes. We have received the Teacher of righteousness, the Spirit who will teach us all things and bring to our remembrance everything Jesus said. It is important to remain on the offensive in the battles of life.
I know that you are zealous in the Lord’s service. Let this zeal continue until the end, since zeal fully establishes us in hope. Let no one overpower you, and don’t let any Delilah cut your hair and cause you to lose your power. Let your hair grow freely and long, and never reveal the source of your strength.
We must not return to them, but they will return to us. Some of Israel’s enemies went out to meet Joshua and pretended to be travelers from afar. Joshua let them live, but God was displeased, because He had said: “But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let remain shall be . . . thorns in your sides.” Joshua had sworn that they would be allowed to live, so he had to make them slaves—water carriers. The same goes for us. We don’t have the right to accept whatever comes along, but we do have the right to keep what we have pure and forcefully drive out everything that is impure, even if it comes from the Minister of Religious Affairs himself.
We are ministers of the new covenant, and things are no less strict in the new covenant than in the old covenant. The body of sin is to be destroyed, not spared—not mine and not others, because Christ is not the minister of sin, but rather the destroyer of both its root and its fruit.
Now we have acquired two large rooms for meetings, at no cost, and have also been able to borrow benches free of charge from the Salvation Army. We have been having some good meetings lately. We are expecting Father to arrive on the 11th or 12th of this month. That will be very nice. Selma is in Fredrikstad; she will come and visit us on her way back home.
Please return warm greetings to Fritz Wegner, the mission school student20. I was happy to read that you have been using the gifts of the Spirit down there. Be strong and of good courage, and no one will be able to overshadow your liberty. I am praying that you may stand fast in the liberty by which Christ has made you free, because I know from experience that it is easy to become bound.
Hearty greetings from your always devoted brother,
JohanWrite soon.
