Horten, August 7, 1907
Dear brother Aksel,

I was just in Fredrikstad and attended six meetings. I got there on Sunday afternoon and left again on Tuesday at noon. Two brothers and one sister from Kristiania were there, and they were a great blessing, as well as a Swedish lady. These dear friends had absolutely no inhibitions; they spoke in tongues and interpreted wherever they went. On Sunday evening we had a wonderful meeting in Elim, a hall that Alf Christian Nielsen, the wholesaler, has rented for a year for the friends. The meeting went on far into the night. Four individuals were in a trance, three women and one man. Two of them had the same experience—that the aisle in the hall was full of angels, and that Jesus was standing over a fallen woman, speaking to her. There are a number of people in Fredrikstad who are progressing, but they need spiritual guidance and someone who can take care of the newborn lambs, because there are plenty of old, unbelieving people who know the Scriptures and who do more harm than they realize. Fredrikstad needs outside help, because I found no one there who was mature enough to take on the full responsibility of ensuring order and who could protect the lambs. Berg’s father took care of advertising the meetings and made sure the hall was heated, etc., and he does a good job in that respect. He is also zealous to make sure that no one takes over but that there is freedom for everyone, which is well and good. The two brothers from Kristiania are going home today. Nielsen, the wholesaler, asked me to stay there for eight days, but eight days in a hotel is a bit much, so I decided to leave, even though it could have been good to remain there.

If people with money who give so much “to the Lord’s work,” as they say, had the sense to put their money toward the right causes, their contributions would be doubly blessed compared to the usual result. However, their lack of godly wisdom results in the contributions not returning the dividends that they should. When I got home, I found a letter from Th. Plum, who is from Copenhagen. He asked whether I could come to Copenhagen so that together with some other friends, we could delve into the Scriptures so that God could reveal some of His treasures of knowledge and wisdom to us. I responded immediately and thanked him for the invitation, but told him that I could not accept, because my leave is only valid for travel within Norway, and also that my leave will end on the 12th of this month. Perhaps God will want me to go out to do His work at some point, because my mind is occupied with His truths from morning to night. God’s Spirit was powerfully upon me in Fredrikstad, and I found it very easy to speak because the people were receptive. I am at God’s disposition when He calls upon me. Just as God did not hide anything from His friend Abraham, He has not hidden anything from me either, up until this day. On the contrary, He has made it very clear to me how I should proceed. Why He does that, I do not know, but one thing I do know is that Christ is my intimate friend who reveals to me everything I desire through His Holy Spirit. Hallelujah! God is good, and His name brings a blessing wherever it finds entrance.

It will be interesting to talk together in person.

Greet Helga, and warmest greetings to you in the Mediator, Christ Jesus.

Yours,

Johan

Nielsen, the wholesaler, (age 31) is a good man. He had rented the hall for a whole year, but he got engaged to a young girl, apparently without giving any thought to 1 Thess. 4:4-5. It seems that the thing she wanted most was to draw him out into the world.
