Dear Br. Aslaksen,
God’s peace.

By God’s abundant grace, I have now been here preaching the word of the Lord every evening so far. Opposition has rained down, and enmity against the cross has been actively at work. However, God has given me grace to take up a battle, and He has given victory. The expression on the young people’s faces testifies that they are rejoicing in the truth. Some religious people have tried to outdo each other in saying how they had been redeemed from the curse of the law. When I mentioned something about suffering with Christ in His body, they could not differentiate this from the suffering that results from sinning and transgressing the law. They have confused works of the flesh and deeds of the body, and despite this lack of knowledge, several have tried—in all their ignorance—to exert authority. God, in His great grace, has often led things in such a way that they have become entangled in their own web. Their folly has become obvious in the midst of the assembly; but the next moment they are just as brash and headstrong as ever.

I have tried to start some conversations, but they aren’t able to have a conversation. I’ve had to bring up one thing after another the entire time. They have had difficulty helping out when there is opposition. However, Br. Wold has done his best and has repeatedly used the sword.

This evening—God willing—I intend to take the Eidanger to Arendal. I will probably be there through Sunday. The teaching of the knowledge that is hidden in the body of Christ is, and will continue to be, a great mystery. Although you might think it is obvious, people can’t comprehend it. But those who accept this knowledge of God melt together into one heart and soul.

Several people have asked me to greet you. Situations like the ones here are a source of suffering for me. I lashed their backs with the sharp sword of truth, and I pushed them forcefully into the truth. They smiled and understood that there was something in what was said, but then they turned around and forgot it all. Whether you cry or play for them, they still understand nothing. Whether you strike them or draw them with cords of love, they’re still just as blind. What else can we do? I don’t think one can do better than to separate the disciples and instruct them in the school of Tyrannus.

However, it is a joy that some have received the word and have understood the knowledge of God and allowed it to lead to godliness.

Greet the dear friends. Greet Judith and your mother. Heartfelt greetings from your brother, sharing in the suffering and in the glory.

Johan
