Letter to Aksel Smith, 1915/11/30

Collected Writings Volume 2 • 1912 - 1917
Haugesund, November 30, 1915
Dear brother Aksel,
God’s peace.

I am currently sitting in Br. Risnes’ apartment. We are talking about his trip to Ålesund. Risnes is actually applying for a job as a blacksmith in Ålesund. He would gladly move up there and be together with the friends through thick and thin. I’m very happy about that, as I think Risnes is just the right man. However, before he leaves, I really hope he can visit the friends in Eastern Norway to be strengthened in faith together with them and get to know them personally. Once he finds out whether or not he’ll get a job in Ålesund, he may want to consult with you about a quick trip east. He said he will think about it. God leads everything in an amazing way.

I got a letter yesterday from Br. Hågensen. He spoke with Br. Kvalheim in Bergen. Kvalheim was really looking forward to meeting Hansen. As you may know, we sent a telegram to Hansen from here. On his own initiative, Hågensen applied to go to Finnmark on board the Frithjof, which was a position that no one else wanted. His application has been accepted, and he will be boarding today. This way he will assume all of Br. Ellefsen’s spiritual work up north. He was previously on the Heimdal in Bergen, but it has become apparent that Bergen is closed—there are no open doors. Hågensen is one of those contemplative people who doesn’t check with others as to what they think or believe. He wrote to me and said that he has already had so much interaction with the brothers that he needs more quietness and time to focus on spiritual things, and he believes that he will have that on board the Frithjof.

So everything seems to be falling into place according to the Lord’s will. When God is with us, who can be against us? I received another letter from Br. Kvalheim; he is rejoicing more than ever before. Kvalheim is one of these weak but sincere souls who genuinely rejoice in the truth.

Greet your family and the friends.

Warm greetings from your brother,

Johan

Dear Br. Aksel Smith,

With Br. Smith’s permission, I would like to add something to his letter. I have now had the great joy of having your brother with us here in Haugesund, and it has been of great encouragement to me and has strengthened my faith. I have felt a longing to work for God, together with the brothers, for quite some time, and now it looks like God is opening the doors for these precious truths. So now I have a longing in my soul to labor for the furtherance of these truths and, if possible, to be of some help to these souls whom God is leading into light and salvation.

I hope I will be able to write to them later.

Warm greetings,

Br. Nils Å. Risnes
