God’s good peace.
Thank you for your very good letter which I received at midnight when I came on board after my shore leave. From reading it, I can see that God has already given you a substantial field of work. I agree that there is much to do and to care for, dear brother. May God raise up many capable workers. What you say about youthful zeal is true. God will guide everything for the best as long as people are longing for something more and they take action with zeal. Which of us hasn’t crossed the line in our zeal for the truth; yet God has seen our attitude of mind and has made things right again. I believe it will go well for Br. Hågensen; I just wish we had more like him. He, like many others, needs to gain experience and undergo spiritual instruction through serving. There’s no question that we all need that.
You and Br. Lohne will be glad to hear the news that Br. Nils Risnes and Gunda Willersrud are working very well together. Several times she has chastised those who tried to make an issue of the fact that he is young, etc. Br. Brune has now had a complete turnaround. He was a bit mean to Risnes at first, but in a recent meeting, he stood up and strongly defended both Sr. Willersrud and Br. Risnes. They say that Brune has changed so much that his co-workers hardly recognize him now. He is the church host, you could say, because he uses his income to do much good. The testimonies from the sisters here put most people in Eastern Norway to shame.
Sr. Willersrud is so worn out, due to her spiritual work, that she often doesn’t have the strength to get involved in all the spiritual battles that regularly take place. Yet she summons her strength when things go too far and then intervenes swiftly and with force. Br. Risnes’ arrival here was absolutely necessary. He has more than enough to do, and he is so happy to be a part of the work that he smiles from ear to ear. He has now fought his way to a place where the church has confidence in him, and they sit quietly and listen when he speaks. There are many noble people here, but like anywhere else, there are those who are lagging behind. O. Berg has not continued with us, and he has left to attend the opposers’ meetings; but his two daughters are still faithfully continuing on.
Kleppe, from Bergen, has written a few articles in Missionæren and Det Gode Budskap that are aimed at us. Their tone is extremely bitter. Br. Kvalheim says that Sr. Torjussen in Moldøen is growing in strength. She is at odds with the Young Women’s Christian Association—the priest and everybody else—because of her unwavering determination, and it seems she is even willing to put her job on the line.
As you can see, God is working on all fronts, more than we can grasp or understand. It’s like a snowball rolling in wet snow; it gets bigger and bigger, and at the same time, resistance grows. May God raise up witnesses who have wisdom and power to guide this mighty people of His. Your letters are always a great joy to me, dear brother. God has given you great grace and wisdom to help His people. May God be honored for this and for everything.
Greet Br. Lohne. And warm greetings to you from your brother, united in the kingdom and the battle,
JohanGreet Karine and your children.
