God’s peace.
Thank you very much for your letter in which you write about your latest trip to Eastern Norway. I believe that things will eventually turn out well. Pauline says that Aksel is considering visiting Karl in Horten. I received a joyful letter today from Sr. Torjussen in Holmestrand, where she says now she finally understands that the fellowship of Christ’s sufferings opens up the way to God. It appears from the letter that she is now very happy. She will be attending a school in Kristiania this winter, so she will have the opportunity to attend Hansen’s meetings. A woman from Trondheim, who is a junior officer in the Salvation Army (sergeant major) is also enthusiastic about the truth. Sr. Stene has been working with her.
I hope this letter reaches you before you travel north. When we arrived here, I was quite surprised to find Br. Kvalheim waiting on the dock. He brought two other brothers from Moldøen with him (two bakers from the Salvation Army, who now attend meetings at Kvalheim’s place). We were together on Monday evening and had an extremely blessed time. The Lord arranges everything in such an amazing way. Jørgine Pettersen has traveled to visit Sr. Willersrud, and Risnes has traveled to Eastern Norway. His visit to Moldøen was very beneficial. Br. Kuhlen has grown fond of him.
As you see, dear brother, God is working along with us to a greater extent than we could have imagined. His name be praised for everything. It was helpful to read your detailed letter about the situations in Eastern Norway. However, I believe that we can have confidence in God for the future, because the brothers love the truth; indeed, they are captivated by it.
As for loving the truth more than loving the brothers, that is not possible. You answered correctly; by this we know that we love God, because we love the brethren. All truth is revealed in the body by the Spirit, the water, and the blood. With these three (or by these three) a person loves the brothers. The truth cannot be separated since the brothers are of the truth. If someone understands a truth before others understand it, they have an even greater reason to love the brothers and to show mercy, because no one loves more than Christ, who is the truth itself.
Today I submitted my application to be stationed on shore. I have been thinking about this for a long time, but I have been waiting for God’s leading in that direction. Yesterday I received a letter from Thv. Torjussen on the Garm; he asked whether everyone on board the destroyers should apply to be relieved from duty. I replied that each individual should apply on their own since not everyone wants to be stationed on shore. I don’t know how this is going to go, but I believe my work is finished here for now, also spiritually speaking. All the best, and have a good trip north. We will probably be in dry dock in Bergen next week, but you will have left by then.
Warm greetings from your brother,
Johan
