Dear brother Aksel,
Peace.

Thanks for your good letter, where you wrote that you and the friends in Drøbak attended the conference in Horten and that everyone was interested.

Br. Nils Risnes is now married to Tito Johansen’s daughter from Sarpsborg. She is one of Marie Johansen’s younger sisters. Marie has been together with us for some time. According to Br. Lohne, Risnes’ wife is very nice. Evidently, Lohne performed the wedding for them in Haugesund. It’s interesting that Risnes got married to someone from Sarpsborg. He’s now on his way to Voss for military exercises.

You will be glad to hear that the little church here in Vardø is now beginning to find its footing on the eternal Rock. On Sunday we had the breaking of bread for the first time—it was a very good meeting. Yesterday (Wednesday) we met again at Br. Strømme’s place. They were filled with joy over their deliverance from the yoke of bondage, and their faces radiated with joy and thankfulness to God who liberates and who has liberated them from the power of darkness. There was another woman there who had never been to a meeting before. Her face turned white for a while, but in the end she prayed fervently for light. The friends here visit other assemblies and proclaim that they have received “light,” much to the annoyance of those who are opposed to us. Susanne Norum now supports us just as zealously as she previously opposed us.

Strømme is making progress. Initially, he ran for the door, but now he sits there rejoicing. His wife and Magda Johansen experienced a great deal in the Salvation Army; they are very wise and insightful people. Andresen, the petty officer, joined us this evening for a time of prayer in my cabin. He now has sufficient light to be able to count all the costs. I don’t think he will be able to continue like this for long. Either he will need to break through, or he, too, will leave us. He prays with great insight, asking for a deeper acknowledgment of his sin and inadequacy, for a purified heart, and to receive the Spirit of God.

I have read about Francis of Assisi; he was a God-fearing man who left behind a commendable example through his life and many good teachings. I am thinking of including some excerpts of his writings in Skjulte Skatter. The friends here speak very highly of Br. Ellefsen, because he has worked with them day and night, despite the weather. He devotes himself to the work with all his heart. He has even worked with some people from whom he likely will never see any fruit from his labors. They are long gone now.

There is unrest in Moldøen because Br. Kvalheim and Br. Risnes have not been able to get along. Oldeide sided with Risnes, who has now left. I have received a number of letters, which I have responded to. I have tried to reconcile things, but it’s no easy matter. I think Br. Kvalheim has been a bit negligent.

Greet your family and the friends.

Warm greetings from your brother,

Johan
