Ps. 19:8-11
It’s always a joy to receive your letters, in which and from which overflow an abundance of the love of God and faithfulness in the Spirit that are able to strengthen fellowship and that inner confidence and trust in Christ Jesus.
When I think of you in your work in Kristiansand, I feel suffering in my spirit. But since the extreme degree of opposition and resistance you are encountering will test you and establish you even more in the truth, there is a comfort and a benefit to be found in this. Nonetheless, your time in Kristiansand will not be without visible fruit. You can see how God has greatly blessed your work in Hønefoss, and He will do the same in Kristiansand.
Aksel was just here for two days. He left for Drammen yesterday to visit Palme and several others. He intends to start working in Kristiania on Monday. A brother named Andresen from Sarpsborg was here last Sunday. He told us that the church in Sarpsborg was deadlocked at the moment because it was divided in two, with half of them having accepted Aksel’s testimony. Br. Ellefsen has done a good job in Haugesund, as you will see for yourself in the enclosed letter. The whole west coast is one immense field of work. When the time is ripe, we can—if you want—write a brief article in Skjulte Skatter announcing that you are traveling and doing the Lord’s work, in case anyone would really like you to visit them and explain the way to them more accurately. Acts 18:26.
As for me, the commanding admiral has responded to my application for an extended leave of absence. He would like to recommend an extension for one more year but wanted to submit the case to the Department of Defense.
The (spiritual) work is increasing year by year and will soon demand my complete and undivided attention. So you can well understand my inner turmoil; but God will guide my way and arrange everything. You wrote from Hønefoss: “I do not believe that God forms His instruments and then puts them on the shelf.” These words are true and have given me much to reflect on, and much comfort—when it comes to making an eternal sacrifice of everything that would hinder the work and allowing God to close all the doors behind me.
The Lord has called you with a glorious calling, dear brother, and it is of unspeakable joy to me in the Spirit that you are out doing the Lord’s work with the message of the cross—the word which is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.
Regarding your question about the paper, we probably have enough copies of each issue here. But it would be a good idea if you could save some copies of issue 1. We plan to make bound volumes of all the issues at the end of the year, so that we can have some full sets in book form. You should set aside some of the copies that are in the best condition for this.
I understand that you have received the 14.60 kroner from Aksel and the 15.00 kroner from me out of Skjulte Skatter’s fund—for your return trip from Hønefoss to Kristiansand. Thanks for the receipts. Tobiassen was here just now and mentioned that he had attended one of your meetings in Kristiansand. I plan on writing a letter to Father about not resisting but rather listening, so he can discover the glory under the covering.
The verses you referred to in Prov. 21:22 and 1 Sam. 18:15 were very precious.
Greet the faithful ones.
Loving greetings in the fellowship of the Spirit.
Yours,
Johan
