The Prophet
A prophet is a messenger from God. His task is to stand in the secret counsels of God and interpret God’s will for the people. This is a person who is not influenced or drawn away by the opinions of the multitudes. Jesus was a prophet. He was among the people as someone who stood at a distance from them. Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man. John 2:24-25.
Consider the prophet in the Pharisee’s house. Jesus had been invited for dinner. But when the Pharisee saw that Jesus didn’t wash before the meal, he was astonished, and that silent astonishment was all it took for the prophet. The Lord said to him then, “Now you Pharisees make the outside of the cup and dish clean, but your inward part is full of greed and wickedness.”
Can you see the prophet at work? Jesus didn’t allow the fact that He was the Pharisee’s dinner guest to cloud His judgment. His attention was on the Pharisee himself the entire time and not on his food. It was love for His host that compelled Him to speak plainly about the things that made for his peace.
If then Christ has become your life, make sure that the prophet can be at work through you.
