God’s grace and peace.
Thank you for your good letter which I received today. It was a joy to hear from you and to hear about the work in Kristiansand. Br. Birkeland departed from here yesterday for Kristiansand on the warship Norge. I am hoping that by God’s grace he will be of help to the saints. He was really looking forward to being in Kristiansand this time, because he had a sense that there would be something for him to accomplish. I’ve written to Br. Plum and have given him the information you gave me about purchasing Prayer. It was sad to hear about Hellum. I heard that you are now leaving for Fredericia next week. It is a long way, and you will only be there for a short time if you are going to return by mid-December, but God can bless your stay there.
The way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who walk on it. From my perspective, it appears that there are fewer and fewer people who are on this way. It is good to keep the command to persevere, because that will promote a godly attitude of mind, make our works more perfect and complete, and make the promise greater. Rev. 3:10.
I am happy that Aksel is heading east. There is a lot of work to do here, but it is rare to find a brother who is qualified for the ministry. I’m happy to be able to tell you that everything has been sorted out between Pettersen and Andresen in Sarpsborg. Andresen seems to be making quick progress, and Br. Pettersen cannot praise him highly enough. They spoke highly of Sr. Kristine in Sarpsborg when we were there two weeks ago. The friends here become more and more familiar with this life and this way, so it is a real joy to speak with them all. Br. Tobiassen now lives here with my mother-in-law. I’m probably going to be in Horten throughout the winter but will be finished working at the war commissariat by the end of this year.
The publication of the paper would go just as well if I have to be away; but my greatest concern is finding content for each month—if Aksel gets sick. If that happens, you will need to help out, and then everything will proceed as before. The friends in Sarpsborg have had well-attended meetings each time the paper comes out, and they hear from one person after another. In spite of everything, Marie Hansen’s husband is doing better, but he is deeply conflicted in his mind. He receives everything I say to him, even chastening. He and his family will soon be moving to Drammen to settle there.
Every now and then someone cancels their subscription, but we also get new subscriptions once in a while. We will pray that God gives you grace and allows things to succeed during your trip to Denmark. Greet the friends there, as well as in Kristiansand. At your request, Judith sent some songs for me to read through. As far as I can see, there was nothing wrong with them, although a few were lacking in content, and that is what needs to be considered when deciding whether they should be printed or not. It would be nice to have around 100 new songs before they are printed. We’re expecting Aksel to stop in Horten before he travels to Kristiania. Warmest greetings to you from all of us here.
Your devoted brother in the fellowship of the Spirit,
JohanGreetings to those at home.
Isa. 43:8.
