Letter to Elias Aslaksen, 1913/12/01

Collected Writings Volume 2 • 1912 - 1917
Horten, December 1, 1913
Dear Br. Elias Aslaksen,
God’s precious peace in Christ Jesus.

Thank you very much for your letter with the enclosed manuscript which I received today. We have had some cancellations now at the end of the year, but not as many as I was expecting. There are also some new subscriptions. It was a joy to hear that it is going well with the friends in Fredericia. For us who believe, the word of the cross is a great joy and the power of God. Purity leads to fellowship, and fellowship leads to power; even the world says that united we’re strong. It all comes down to “power”—hidden from the world, but revealed to the children of the day.

Our life is short, and our days are few; may God give us grace to use them well and to put it into the hearts of the others to use them well. I am glad that you did not accept the position in Larvik, because the additional pennies you could have earned there would never—for all eternity—outweigh the fruit that you are now obtaining by using your time in the ministry of Christ.

For my own part, it appears that it is God’s will for me to be bound to my work (temporal), and I must also attend to my earthly calling. But sometimes I sense that the Spirit of the Lord is powerfully upon me, and I don’t always know where to find an outlet for His power that is working in me. But I know He will lead me according to His will, and to that end He will pour out His abundant grace over me.

Br. Ellefsen has not been down here for a long time; he has to stay at home because Ester has scarlet fever, and it’s contagious. But he is doing well.

Karl’s wife, Nore, is suffering from blood loss and is bedridden. It will be wonderful to speak with you. You can stay with us when you pass through here on your return trip home. But for the sake of the children, you should not go to Br. Ellefsen’s place. Greet the friends in Fredericia with John 10:4-5.

Greetings to you with Phil. 2:7, 8, and 9.

Your brother, fighting with you in the Lord,

Johan
