Beloved in Christ Jesus.
Thank you for your very good letter. It is always a great joy to read your letters and sense your love, which is made manifest through your care for the lambs that God has given you grace to bear and to guide. May God always preserve you in this beautiful relationship and give you strength to bear and to endure, so that when it comes to responsibility and strength, you may become a pillar in God’s temple. What more could we wish to attain here in this world than to become God’s co-workers? God is faithful in His work; let us also be faithful in our work as His co-workers.
I truly understand more and more that anything that is not coupled with wisdom is useless. Br. Andresen’s letters make this very clear. Br. Ellefsen and Aksel were here yesterday, and they read them. They both found that the letters contradicted themselves. May God preserve us in watchfulness and in the acknowledgment of chastening in our prayers, so that the knowledge and insight of God can find place in our lives. What help is it to pray night and day if we only pray to consume it upon our lusts? God wants us to pray and receive, and to keep what we’ve received. The things that we keep equip us to serve God. But if we pray in order to receive things that allow us to go around getting honor and prestige, then we consume it upon our fleshly lusts. If we pray and keep what we receive, then even God’s gifts are a cross—a cross that is only granted to His most intimate and faithful followers to bear.
It is becoming more and more apparent that life in God is hidden. There is no better way for it to be revealed than through the knowledge of God in the Spirit. By this knowledge we understand that when it comes to the growth of the body, the way of life upward is contingent upon the way of death downward. God will judge those who are outside. Their judgment is that they will be gathered as enemies into a footstool under His feet, until the fullness of this enmity—the devil’s masterpiece, the Antichrist—is embodied as the actual footstool at the feet of Christ. Christ will then destroy him at the revelation of His coming. Christ was the embodiment of God; the Antichrist will be the embodiment of Satan. Every way of thinking and every battle leads to the embodiment of either one or the other. May God keep us humble, attentive, vigilant, and mindful of His chastening, and desiring to be filled with Him in whom all the fullness of God dwells.
You ask if we would like the subscriptions to be paid in postage stamps. We would prefer cash, because that is what the printer prefers, but otherwise we would prefer 5 øre stamps because we use 40 of those per month.
I am returning Andresen’s letters, which are enclosed. The free subscriptions you sent have been registered, and the papers have been sent out.
Greetings in the love of Christ to you and all the others.
Your brother,
JohanI have received 100 copies of Prayer.
