Put on the New Man

Ephesians

Put on the New Man

“...and be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on the new man, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” Verses 23-24.

As we put to death the deeds of the body by the Spirit and walk in the light, the blood will cleanse us from all sin. My mind will become more sensitive to what is sin and impurity; I will hate deceitfulness and love the truth. I will even hate my own life in this world. We can do this because we are no longer in the flesh, but in the Spirit. (Romans 7:5, 8:9.)

The renewing of our minds takes place daily as God’s light enters our bodies, increasingly enlightening us. Sin gets condemned in the flesh and loses more and more of its power, so even the deeds of the body decrease in number, and “the old man”—who is already crucified—is increasingly committed into death on the cross.

The “man of God”—the new man—increases in strength as the old man decreases. Truth, righteousness, and holiness grow by the renewing of the mind unto light and perfection—which is the Urim and Thummim of the new covenant—whereby the new man, in the Lord, can resolve all difficulties. (Exodus 28:30.)
