Bear Fruit
We are totally dependent on a living connection with the vine if we are to bear fruit. None of us can bear fruit on our own, and we must be pruned so that we can bear more fruit. Many people are nice, and have been since childhood, but they don’t bear fruit for God. If we are not poor in spirit, we can never stand in God’s counsels and receive from His mouth. If we have no need to enter into the light that shines for us, knowledge will only puff us up. We can say the right words, but they will not be spoken in the power of the Spirit, and the church won’t be built up by such words. This is why a woe is proclaimed over the talkers. They will be brought to nothing.
God’s Word also indicates how incredibly serious it is if we produce thorns and thistles (sins) in the situations of life. If that occurs, we are close to being cursed. The intention is that all the sap and strength we receive should be used to produce fruits (the virtues) and not just to show off with a magnificent outward splendor. Jerusalem had uncleanness in her skirts, so her enemies were exalted. If we don’t take this seriously, we will stumble into some sin here or there. There must be seriousness and cleansing when the prophetic light shines, and there must be a spirit of judgment and cleansing in our meetings. We must get rid of all superficiality if we want weight in our spirit. Without the spirit of judgment and cleansing, we will sink into religiosity.
A servant of the Lord must be able to speak powerfully against fornication, drunkenness and carousing. Because of such sins, the wrath of God is coming over the children of disobedience. Those who want to live in their sins do not have wisdom and are easily offended. They will not thrive in the fellowship of the light. May God raise up many watchmen over Jerusalem in our days who stand watch and have power to speak as they ought to. Then the Spirit will work and urge the church and the individual members forward on the way of life.
