It is Good, My Daughter, That You Go Out With His Young Women, So That People Will Not Mistreat You in Another Field
Fellowship with the saints gives us strength. David says, “I stay close to the saints in the land, and the excellent ones in whom is all my delight.” Ps. 16:3. In fellowship we discover glorious jewels, even fullness of joy. 1 John 1:3-4. It is also a preserving power. Therefore Naomi said to Ruth, “It is good that you go out with his young women.” The mutual co-operation between God’s people produces blessed results; and if everyone were as diligent in God’s field as Ruth was, praises for God’s goodness would resound from many lips.
Naomi warned against all other fields, just as Boaz had. V. 8.
The ears in the fields of the world can have a beautiful and deceptive appearance, but on closer examination their content is nothing but emptiness. If you were to search all the fields in the world you would not find a single grain of barley. Empty ears are like empty words; they are enticing for the flesh, but they are filled with foolishness and worldly glory that paralyze the spiritual mind.
God’s Word is like fully ripe grain that opens your eyes and gives you clear understanding. In another field imprudence is considered to be prudence, for that is where those who are mutilated gather. Those who are disobedient go to another field, and as a result suffer in their consciences. The cross is the wall between God’s field and the field of the world. If you are in the field of the world, you can cross over to God’s field by the cross and receive a good conscience.
