Christ and the Majority

Christ and the Majority

“Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” Luke 1:30-33.

Christ governs as a King in His kingdom, in contrast to the nations of our time that are governed by democracy. Christ is a Prince who is full of power and God’s wisdom. His command is law. He does not ask for people’s opinions, and His decisions are not based on what the majority thinks, because God has given Him nations as His inheritance. He knows what dwells in man, whether there are many or few.

This democratic, worldly spirit also wants to assert itself in the church of God. It says if the majority is in favor of something, it must be right. However, one ear that is able to hear weighs more on the scale than the majority who cannot hear. Was not one David better than 10,000? Cannot one person who hears Him who speaks from heaven say much more than multitudes who hear nothing? We have no use for democracy in the church of God. Rather, all of us should sanctify Christ as Lord in our hearts, because all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge dwell in Him. People should pray to be saved from this democratic spirit that they drag with them from the world into the assembly of God. Purge out the old leaven and become a new lump. The Captain of our salvation speaks with authority; He speaks from heaven. Let him who has an ear hear what the Spirit says to the church. He ordains apostles, evangelists, prophets, shepherds and teachers in His church, and if Christ has ordained them, they remain there, even if the majority wants to vote them out. The majority cannot dismiss someone from being a servant in the church either. Christ has absolutely no use for the majority, because when He trod the winepress alone, the majority was not with Him. So never say that something must be right just because the majority says so; the truth is that the majority can be moved by even the slightest breeze. That is why it is easy to gain followers, even if you were to preach that the kingdom of God is in Utah.

A two-thirds majority vote can change the laws of this world; that is why the number of the beast is the number of a man—666. Rev. 13:18. However, God does not regard the opinions of the multitudes, because He says of Jesus Christ: This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!
