Is This True?

When it was a question of being baptized for the forgiveness of their sins all the people were moved to be converted. Matt. 3:5. But when it was a matter of following in His steps Jesus sat on the mountain and wept, saying: “How often I wanted to gather your children . . . but you were not willing.” With all His fullness He was unable to get many people to go in that direction. When His life’s work on this earth was finished He had gathered one hundred and twenty souls from among God’s people.

Is it any different today? We can repeat Jesus’ own question: “When the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”

Many people want to enjoy, but few want to give. Many want to be glorified, but few want to suffer. Many people rejoice in the obedience of Christ, but only a few want to be obedient. Many want to be exalted, but only a few want to be humbled. Many want to be served, but only a few want to serve. Many want to lead, but only a few want to be led. Many people want to have a larger salary, but only a few will pay more. Many people rejoice when they have money coming in, but only a few rejoice when they have to pay out.

Are you among the few?
