Choose God’s Way Before Misfortune Befalls You
“Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.” Ps. 125:1.
Many people rely on the Lord when they come into need and cannot see any other way out. Then they cannot do anything else. They trust first and foremost in their own reasoning and in people; but when everything else fails, they fall back on God. He is gracious and merciful to them. However, to trust in the Lord means that we choose His will even though it seems that we might suffer loss as a result of it. Although we have expectations in different areas, we must not put our trust in them, but wait on the Lord—that is the perfect thing to do. He shall be like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved. Israel suffered misfortune whenever they were disobedient to the Lord. But when they trusted in the Lord and kept His commandments, misfortune did not befall them.
Therefore we must not just trust in the Lord on the day of misfortune, but we must test each step we take to see whether it is taken according to God’s will and that we are not serving our own desires. Then we will be spared much.
Not all tribulations are a trial of our faith. Most of them can be for the purpose of humbling us. Even if we do as much as we can to avoid tribulations, we will not be able to, because they come from the Lord. However, our faith will be tried when we fall into various temptations. 1 Pet. 1:6. When we have to make a choice, it is vital that we renounce what is gain to us according to the flesh and lose our life for Christ’s sake. That is when our faith is being tried. Therefore, if we then choose to suffer with Him, we will also be glorified together with Him.
The thoughts of my heart will not be revealed if I have only one way to go. But if I have the choice of going on several ways, then my attitude of mind will be revealed.
