Do Not Grow Weary!

Isaiah 40:28-31
  • 1) He is not weary. V. 28.
  • 2) He gives power to the weak [weary]. V. 29.
  • 3) We shall not faint [grow weary]. V. 31.
  • This agrees perfectly with Peter’s word that we have been given exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these we may be partakers of the divine nature. Seeing that He does not grow weary, and seeing that we become partakers of His nature, we also do not grow weary. Glory to God!

Nevertheless, we do have corruptible bodies that grow weary. However, it is in our spirit, in our hearts and minds that we by God’s great grace and power do not grow weary in doing the good and are untiring in bearing and enduring evil.

How the natural man is so quick to grow weary and tired of his fellow men! He grows weary and tired of all kinds of things! People bear almost nothing from each other. What wretchedness! What a disaster! What glorious power there is in the gospel that can fully and completely save us from all this corruption!

The love of God and of Christ, an unwavering, indwelling fullness of this love is what actually saves us and liberates us from this great evil that causes us to grow tired and weary of each other because love bears all things, endures all things, believes all things, and hopes all things. Love is longsuffering. It forgives seventy times seven, constantly requiting evil with good. Love is kind; it embodies the very essence of kindness. It continues being kind without ceasing! It can always say (without lying), “I would gladly . . .”, because that is its nature.

The root cause of all sin is actually that people grow tired and weary of something. They lose patience and stop being longsuffering.

Nonetheless, everyone who has received love as a possession in his inner man is and remains untiring in doing good on all his ways. Glory to God!

Let our first, most immediate and great goal be not to grow weary—not to grow weary in heart and mind! Even the body will to some extent be strengthened by it. It is a kind of bonus.
