A Better Hope
“For the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope through which we draw near to God.” Hebrews 7:19.
The law was only effective to the point where it could judge sin after it had come out of the body. It was beyond its power to put to death the cause of sin, which is covetousness. Therefore no one could become perfect by keeping the law; on the contrary, the law constantly reminded them of their sins. Hebrews 10:3.
What is this better hope that is brought in, by which we can draw near to God? It is this: what was impossible for the law was done in Christ; sin in the flesh was put to death. Romans 8:3. Covetousness was destroyed in the death of Christ, thereby putting an end to Satan’s leading over all flesh in the lives of those who believe.
This is the exalted hope of the new covenant whereby we can draw near to God. “Therefore, since we have such a hope, we use great boldness of speech.” 2 Corinthians 3:12.
God is not pleased with those who draw back. Let us put aside everything that hinders and race into this better hope with joy and boldness. In this hope there is growth, progress, and transformation into the image of Jesus Christ.
