Lies—The Truth
All lies are from the devil—the truth is from God.
The devil is the father and the prince of lies. He is saturated by the spirit of lying, and he rules over the power of the lie and its very essence.
“Surely the children of men are only emptiness; and the sons of men are a lie; if they are weighed in the balances, they are altogether emptiness.” Ps. 62:9.
In this emptiness the devil can fill hearts with all kinds of lying inventions. We must work with fear so we can be set free from lying and its spirit-power. We must search ourselves and see if we hate lying with all its inventions and exaggerations, and if the truth is in our heart and mouth.
The devil breaks people down with discouragement and leads them into darkness. The truth lifts us up and gives us hope and joy by the Word of truth. If the devil says that it is impossible for you to attain to one thing or another in God’s Word you can be certain that it is absolutely possible for you. “All things are possible to him who believes.” Mark 9:23. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God . . . .” Rom. 8:28. There is hope and consolation in the truth.
In the last days Antichrist—the lawless one—will be revealed with all power, signs, and lying wonders. In that spirit it is easy to deceive people and lead them away from the truth and from salvation.
At His coming the Lord Jesus will consume the lawless one with the breath of His mouth. Each word that proceeds from Jesus’ mouth has the power to consume each word that proceeds from a lying mouth. 2 Thess. 2:7-12.
All of us are liars by nature. “There is none righteous, no, not one . . . .” Rom. 3:10. Only that which is born of God, that which is true and genuine can overcome all the power and might of the devil. “Therefore, putting away lying, each one speak truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another.” Eph. 4:25.
Only if we are faithful to the truth in love can we grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ. Eph. 4:15. Our growth in Christ cannot be mixed with any kind of lie. “But the mouth of those who speak lies shall be stopped.” Ps. 63:11.
“You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.” John 8:44.
When Christ speaks the truth He speaks of what was revealed to Him by His heavenly Father. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14. “And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out ‘Abba, Father!’” Gal. 4:6.
In Revelation 14 we read of the host of overcomers on Mount Zion where they are gathered together with the Lamb. There were one hundred and forty-four thousand who had His name and His Father’s name written on their foreheads. They were redeemed from the earth and sang a new song, which no one else could learn to sing. “These were redeemed from among men, being firstfruits to God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile, for they are without fault before the throne of God.” They have received a new heart and a cleansed tongue. Their song was pure and heavenly. “You are all fair, my love, and there is no spot in you.” Song of Sol. 4:7.
“The elder, to the elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth, and not only I, but also all those who have known the truth, because of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever: Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father in truth and love.
“I rejoiced greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, as we received commandment from the Father.” 1 John 1-4.
