Grace and peace.
I’m just sending a few words with regard to your last article in Missionæren. Among other things, you write, “And simple minds turn these things into main doctrines, only causing divisions, etc.”
It appears that you have been a bit zealous in trying to make your point, but if you think a little more about it, you will no doubt fully understand that neither simple minds nor great minds can do anything about the way they are. A tall man can’t be praised nor a short man ridiculed, because that would be taking issue with God, the One who created them. Furthermore, by using the word “mind,” you actually remove someone’s personal responsibility to reason consciously. So such a mind can neither be faulted nor blamed.
In the world, people speak of “great minds.” They mean people who are broad-minded as they vainly call it, and they speak of “simple minds” with reference to people who are narrow-minded, etc. But that’s not the way it is in God’s kingdom.
A mind is a constant that cannot be altered; it cannot make itself great or simple. The Father of spirits has created it as it is, and nothing can be done about that.
I felt that it was necessary to say a little about this; I’m sure you will understand it clearly yourself when you read this.
An article (spiritual) will often have one or another blind spot, where the writer has not been watchful enough. I’ve caught myself doing this more than once. Port Arthur had its own blind spots, and the Japanese cleverly sent their vessels in through these points.
Yesterday, I received a letter from Sr. Palme, as well as a circular letter from you. This circular letter was really excellent and covered much of what we spoke about in Kristiansand. I’ll be on board today, so I might write to Sr. Palme this evening. She has enough knowledge; now she needs to put what she knows into practice. This knowledge can breed worms (I’m thinking of the manna in the wilderness) if it is not applied to practical life. I may write something along these lines to her. You’ve received many letters now. Greet Br. Anthony and his wife.
Your brother,
Johan
