Thank you very much for your postcard from Sommerhjemmet.14 I hear that you are suffering from anxiety. You say that God is also able to heal the body. Yes, that is absolutely certain. He can heal it, and He can break it down, because He has all power in heaven and on earth. However, rest in God is mighty to drive anxiety away. Spiritual strength also strengthens the body, since body, soul, and spirit belong together. When I came to rest in my spirit, my whole body relaxed. However, if our spirit is restless, we are all over the place; but whoever believes will not act hastily. We do not need to bring Christ up or to bring Him down, for He is near, in our hearts and in our mouths. Then there’s no need to be all over the place.
Do you really know what it means to have given up everything for Christ’s name’s sake? You know that you ought to give up everything, but I’m asking you if you have sold everything in order to gain Christ. If you have done this, then it’s impossible for you to suffer from anxiety.
He who has little business shall become wise, and the wisdom of a learned man comes by opportunity of leisure. Therefore it’s not wisdom to destroy ourselves. Many things can be motivated by nothing more than a strong desire to complete the things we have personally initiated. As many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. This leading is not the kind that causes us to suffer from anxiety.
Therefore, you can safely trust God in everything. Then your rest and your confidence will become great. You will experience the peace and joy that surpass all understanding, and I would be surprised if your anxiety didn’t disappear. I don’t have much else to write about at this point, since you haven’t opened your heart to me so I can know how you are doing—except that you are not well.
You will most likely have much to battle through before you reach the point where you can speak plainly what the Spirit of God wants spoken, without respect of persons. This will cause you to be hated by all men. Are you willing to do this? Are you willing to be faithful to the light in everything—regardless of the cost? If you are, then hallelujah! I have always appreciated the spirit in you, for there is something honest and straightforward about you. Go forward in the truth, and you will become like a new, sharp threshing sledge. Do not fear, but make use of the light that is given to you so that more light will be of benefit to you.
Wishing you all the best. May God fill you with peace and joy to such a degree that, as far as you are concerned, the word “anxiety” can disappear from your vocabulary. Or if you wanted to use it, then it would only be as a memory of something that no longer exists.
Your always devoted brother,
