Horten, April 21, 1914
Dear Br. Aslaksen,
God’s peace.

I am sending you a letter that just arrived from Br. Andresen in Sarpsborg. As you can see, he would like to have a conference in Sarpsborg at Pentecost.

There are now only a few petty officers here who haven’t been posted, which is why I am unsure what to expect regarding my job. For this reason, I am unable to commit to attending a conference, or to anything else. Of course, I would like to go to the conference, wherever it may be, but my financial situation requires me to limit traveling.

I think Hønefoss would benefit from having visitors, but it’s a bit out of the way, and many friends are in a difficult situation financially.

You should discuss this with Aksel and make the best out of the situation. Since God destroyed the Tower of Babel in its time, we have to be content with each being in our own place. But I do sense a longing to see you and the other friends, because God has bound us together in His own way, in spirit and in heart—despite the distances that separate us physically. Perhaps the cause of this lack of connection is that we are in exile here—absent from the Lord, as long as we are at home in the body.

Can you pass Andresen’s letter on to Aksel when you send him your thoughts about the conference?

Sr. Woll from Moss, who is originally from Grimstad, comes often, and she loves to be with the friends here. Karine and Nore were with her in Moss last Sunday. Perhaps she could even arrange a conference in Moss at some point.

Br. Tobiassen has left here now. He has completed his time of service, and this summer he will be first mate on a fjord boat in Kristiania.

Greetings in the love of Christ from us all here. While I am away, please remember the paper and send an article now and then, because you know how busy it is on board.

Greetings to those at home and the friends.

Your brother,

Johan
