God’s grace and peace.
Thank you very much for your good letter which I received today. The goodness of God endures forever. The kingdoms of this world are being shaken these days; but by the goodness and power of God, we have become citizens of a kingdom that cannot be shaken. The corruptibility of the kingdoms that are passing away makes this kingdom all the more glorious. A fire is burning beneath every individual and under all of society. This fire of righteousness breaks through and requires a sacrifice wherever it comes, and people are unable to submit to the details of its demands. But by God’s grace and help, in the wisdom of the Spirit, we come to know and understand that everything is subject to the power of sin and judgment, and that God has mercy on the one on whom He will have mercy. Therefore, God is righteous when He breaks down, and on account of righteousness, He is longsuffering and gracious when He upholds, because He has our eternal well-being in view.
God is hastening to carry out His work and to show the world its emptiness and folly, so that this same world will begin to expect something more lasting—if only they could see it.
We ought to be deeply thankful to God that through much work and persuasion, He has instilled a portion of that insight in us which is able to perceive the glory and power of the world to come. Look at how powerful nations become when they pay close attention to details; look at the collective power and discipline the German Empire is demonstrating these days.
We can learn from this that the precision and obedience that we are taught in this spiritual military school prepare us in a powerful way for the works that God will use us for in the future. This discipline is so focused and powerful that it is called “one body.” Everything must give way to this body. It dwells in a kingdom which is affirmed to be “the Righteousness of God,” and it fears no force outside of itself.
Br. Berg and Br. Birkeland are on board the Tordenskjold. Their permanent mailing address is Horten. In other words, Horten’s post office will make sure the letters are forwarded. I received a letter from Aksel today. He was on board with Berg and Birkeland in Kristiansand. They had a good conversation about the division between soul and spirit, which brings about the sufferings of Christ in the flesh. Aksel said that Øverby was on board the Tordenskjold and that he has now begun to seek God. He received a letter from Br. Thorleif Hansen, and he sent him a response. Skiaker is in Drøbak. Next Wednesday, September 16, we will depart from here on our way to Ålesund for approximately three weeks. Greet Judith.
There is a meeting hall located at 17 Skostrædet, Bergen, where some of the so-called free friends gather; you might find someone there to talk to. It is not far from the town square. In Ålesund I met with some members of Kristi Menighet for an outing in the countryside and for a meeting. Br. N. Devold also joined us. I had the opportunity to give my testimony to about 100 people, and afterward some of them wanted to talk more about these things. Two of them were very interested. They wanted someone to come and tell them more about these matters. There really are fields of work everywhere.
Warmest greetings from your ever-devoted brother,
JohanOnce I visited a brother named Leksander in Bergen. His wife was very interested. Br. Ellefsen has also been there.
