Letter to Theodor Ellefsen, 1914/11/19

Horten, November 19, 1914
Dear Br. Ellefsen,

Thank you for your good letter. It has been a great joy for me to see the fruit of your labor in the Lord. We spent about a week in Haugesund, where I went ashore almost every evening and talked with Br. Lohne and Br. Nils Risnes. They are very good men. To be sure, Br. Lohne is the pillar of the church; but Br. Risnes is a remarkably spiritual person who catches on quickly and who, through godly fear, has entered deeply into the life of Christ. It has been a great joy for me to follow your footsteps in the Lord and find such rich fruits. This is very praiseworthy, dear brother, and God is with you and is blessing your labor here. Likewise, Br. Th. Mohn, who you were together with on board the Viking, has written a very good letter to Skjulte Skatter, which testifies to his understanding. (His letter contained an order for a bound edition of Skjulte Skatter and also a report about a meeting you were at in Hammerfest.)

As you can see, I’m in Horten. Johanne has appendicitis, and I was given a week off. We are in dry dock in Bergen. I leave here tomorrow evening for Moldøen, which is our ship’s destination. Today I took a little trip to Drøbak to see Aksel. I visited Helga, Olga Olsen, Ellefsen, Olafsen, and others. I told them about the friends in Haugesund, and they rejoiced. While I was in Trondheim, I spent a lot of time together with Br. Johan Olsen, who is from Brevik. I can assure you, it is going much better for him now. Mrs. Birkeland has begun to cleanse herself. I spoke with Pauline Borgersen, who told me quite a bit about that. She had read letters, etc., and had seen a set of bankbooks, which clearly showed where the funds had been withdrawn. Karl and I went to visit Mrs. Birkeland, and she told us that she has received new power in her life every time she has cleared away something of the old.

Klara Wold, from Moss, has visited Karl and Nore. She said she now understands clearly what we have been talking about. When she came to our meetings and we spoke, things seemed unclear for her; but she has since received clarity. Br. Thorleif Hansen is in Rendalen to witness about God. Br. Skiaker is in Drøbak. They are working everywhere, and it seems that most of them are well grounded now. May God be with them all and make them workers in His vineyard.

Johanne is very ill. My heartfelt desire and prayer is that she will be allowed to live. She has now been bedridden for about 8 days.

Br. Aslaksen is back in Hønefoss. I read in today’s issue of Hortens Avis that the Tordenskjold has arrived in Trondheim. I wonder if they have confused it with the Harald Haarfager.

Aksel is doing well in Drøbak. He looked quite healthy.

Warm greetings from your brother,

Johan
