God’s peace.
Thank you for your good letter that I received some time ago. I have been in Horten and in Drøbak since then. I spent three evenings with Br. Ellefsen in Haugesund, who was very happy about the trip to Finnmark where the Lord worked mightily.
I was also recently in Å., where I met my good friend R., the cobbler. God has blessed him so abundantly and given him light, that he rejoices and praises God there at his cobbler’s bench. He has seven children and earns only 2.50 kroner per day, even in these times when prices are high. He’s not very gifted, humanly speaking, but he is known by God, and he knows God. It is so blessed to be working among those who are poor, those who are nothing in this world.
Working in the Lord’s vineyard is blessed and eternally rewarding. I think we must forge a path in several places, and those who are established must personally go to action, each in their own way. It is healthy to work when everything goes according to the Spirit’s leading. There are very few preachers here in Northern Norway, so people are extremely grateful to be able to hear something. Maybe some of our dear brothers can find an opportunity to visit Western Norway. Br. X is a worker in God’s kingdom: quiet, warm, and quick-witted. He considers everything word for word, sentence by sentence, and doesn’t accept any half-measures.
In Å. we had a very blessed Bible study. They showed a great deal of confidence, and they were as one heart and one ear. Both men and women are praying for the knowledge of God, and they say that now they understand the way. A man, who had been caught up in false freedom, stood up and judged himself in the midst of the congregation, and he asked for forgiveness because he had spoken to them in ignorance. Another stood up at a Sunday meeting and tried to contradict my entire testimony; but God strengthened me and gave me the grace and power to refute him, so that everybody could hear it. He had nothing more to say.
I see clearly how God has greatly blessed the work here. There are fields of work in Western Norway, and I think you would have more than enough to do if you came to these parts.
I would love to hear from you. Greet the friends you meet.
Warm greetings.
Your brother,
Johan
