God’s peace.
Thank you for your two very good letters which brought me great joy. The last one was about the conference in Lillestrømmen. I believe these conferences will have long-lasting effects. A person can feel somewhat fearful of overreaching, because experience has taught us that chastening will come in its time. Several of the friends have now progressed in their understanding to the point that they know how to judge for themselves in different matters. It’s also very good that no single individual, no matter who they are, can tear down God’s building. I don’t believe anyone has meant to do this; but through inattentiveness, it is possible to be lenient toward carnal people, people who would have no problem disrupting the entire house. Such elements must be kept in check. If anyone wants to defend their behavior, that’s their own business, and it would be to their own detriment.
The congregation is now so large that those who are in the forefront must show firmness; this is vital. I believe the effect of the entire conference underscores what I wrote above—and to such a degree that it was noticeable for those who are most spiritual. I’m not fearful concerning what has been built up, but rather for those people who destroy themselves by interfering with this building. If this work is unable to stand, let it crumble; but let it crumble because of the knowledge of God, which is mighty for pulling down strongholds. But if the building has been built through the knowledge of God, it is madness to try to destroy it through carnal chatter. This would be as futile as a sparrow trying to peck a hole in armored plating.
My desire is that in the future everyone will work together in one Spirit toward the same goal, which is to present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. We would have to say that things have gone fairly well up until today, in the midst of great opposition and many battles, because God has been with us.
Recently, I have thought a lot about reckoning yourself to be alive to God. Rom. 6:11. I can’t remember if I mentioned this in my previous letter, which I assume you have received. There is a female sergeant major from Trondheim who attends the meetings here. She is now beginning to rejoice in the light and is filled with amazement. She has already begun to take off her Salvation Army badges, etc. She works as a door-to-door book seller.
Br. Kvalheim wrote about Br. Risnes’ four-day visit to Moldøen. He was very thankful for the visit. They had meetings every day, during which Br. Risnes refuted the opposers. The friends are working steadily here. Jørgine Pettersen is going to meet Gunda Willersrud tomorrow at the Kløften railway station. A sister here has an older sister by birth who has always wanted to exert a certain degree of control over her. She came to a meeting at Gunda Willersrud’s place while she was here. She was convicted to such a degree that she ran out into the kitchen crying because she had never heard anything so terrible. In the end she asked the friends to pray for her. She experienced a complete turnaround and traveled home and preached to her family and to a Pentecostal man. The result was that he also began to doubt himself to such an extent that they said he couldn’t bring himself to attend the conference here during Pentecost. There is work going on in every corner—morning, noon, and night. As they become better equipped, they start traveling around and working in other places. Ingeborg Stene was prompted to go to her home village, where several people now listen to her. She is especially stirred up and has a good understanding. Br. Risnes is going to Eastern Norway after he completes his military exercises.
I have already been to five meetings here. It is such a joy to see their steadfastness. Br. Brune is making great strides, and he is not easily shaken now. He has really preached words of exhortation to the friends here, after Willersrud and Risnes left, saying that they must stand firm and not be contaminated by the synagogues. He is extremely radical. He asked them to go to bed in the evening rather than going out to visit one or another synagogue.
I wish you all the best in the Lord, and warm greetings.
Your brother,
Johan
