God’s grace and peace.
Thank you for your good letter with the enclosed stamps. I have now registered Gerda Sollie from Hønefoss as a free subscriber for 1914. You can sell the copies of Strayed Concerning the Faith, which were sent to you, and use the money yourself or give it away—whatever you want to do. Skjulte Skatter doesn’t want any money for them.
Skjulte Skatter doesn’t have the financial capacity to cover the 100 kroner for printing songbooks. Printing the paper costs 50 kroner per month, plus other expenses, and we have not collected enough money. We have 1,500 subscribers, but only 200 of them have paid since the new year, and of those, only about 100 have paid for 1914. So the songbook will have to wait until later.
Br. O. Andresen was here, and I told him what you told me. He was very grieved over it and sat down immediately to write to you about the matter. I added a detailed explanation on the back of the page, but he tore up that letter and wrote another. He said what you had told me was not actually the case. He was referring to a meeting at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at Bethel, where there was a packed house. After O. Andresen spoke, Ellefsen said something, and then I spoke. After that, Firing got up and tried to correct me a bit. Then Karl got up and made some strong categorical statements. Firing then got up, full of zeal, and tried to finish Karl off. But he had barely sat down again when a new contender, Tobiassen, showed up on the battlefield. He spoke with such clarity and in such a calm and matter-of-fact-way that I had to smile to myself. This was the meeting that Br. O. Andresen was unable to bear. Firing praised Andresen, and Andresen felt obligated to get up and mediate, and he said something about not being aware of the plank in your own eye, etc. He was confronted about this when we came home, and he asked God for forgiveness, but he still does not understand the whole picture. He is older and does not grasp things very easily, so he should be treated with care. He was sorrowful over what had been said about you.
Olafsen in Drøbak would like to have some friends from Kristiania come for a visit on Sunday, eight days from now, and is asking if we can go as well. We can’t answer that yet. We have not heard anything from Sarpsborg. Are they maybe dying out over there?
Tobiassen has been totally quiet all winter long. He ran in such a way that he lost his power, and then he was afraid. Now he is doing just fine. He speaks like a priest and has a very good way of saying things. He is thinking about going out to do the work of the Lord.
Greet the friends and your family.
Warmest greetings to you from your brother,
JohanI am currently stationed on board the Valkyrjen.
Johansen has come home from the Antarctic, but he is not doing well.
