Understanding Our Hope

Ephesians

Understanding Our Hope

“...having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you....” Verse 18.

To have hope is one thing; to understand that hope is another. By the spirit of wisdom and revelation, and with enlightened eyes of the heart, we will understand this hope. Hope becomes living because it involves something living. God’s light illuminates all the glory and all those things that are rightfully ours. Enlightened eyes behold it, and the heart believes and hopes in it. Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Colossians 1:27.) There aren’t as many different hopes as there are opinions. No, we are called to the one hope of our calling. (Ephesians 4:4.)

Everyone whose eyes are enlightened comes to this same hope, each in his calling. There is only one hope, because there is only one Savior, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God, the Father of all.
