Understanding the Glory of Our Inheritance

Understanding the Glory of Our Inheritance

“... what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints....” Verse 18.

Hope takes possession of the inheritance; enlightened eyes of the heart gaze upon it. We admire its greatness, and in faith we embrace it with our understanding.

Man is the most excellent of all God’s creatures, and everything was created for man’s sake. We are grief-stricken when one of our dear ones is taken from us. But in eternity we shall never more be separated; we shall receive one another as an eternal inheritance and possession.

Jesus’ delight was in the sons of men, and for their sakes He forsook His glory. His delight has now become our delight; therefore we love one another, and therefore we seek to win people. It is a natural thing that God makes us fishers of men, for in brotherly love our love reaches out to everyone.

Jesus does not rejoice in silver, gold, or precious stones. He rejoices in His new creatures, those intelligent beings full of wisdom and the knowledge of God. He inherits us, just as we inherit Him and everything together with Him. Think, to be together forever with one another, together with Jesus Christ! What fellowship in spirit with one another, and with the Father and with His Son! The first things have passed away; death is no more. Only care for one another remains—everyone seeking the other’s best.

Think to inherit the richness and variety of a host of souls that only wishes me well, beings who live and move in the laws of love, that love which never ceases and never seeks its own! No one says he owns anything. All the others are our inheritance, full of glory—an inheritance one cherishes and protects in all eternity. No one gets sick or dies; everyone has eternal life. Doesn’t the propsect of this glorious inheritance urge us on to renounce all egotism in this present life, so that even now in the eyes of our brothers we can be their glorious inheritance?
