To Walk Worthy of Our Calling
“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all lowliness and meekness, with patience, forbearing one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Verses 1-3.
Just as each person has his own body, his own appearance, and his own name, each one also has his own calling, for God placed the members in the body as it pleased Him. Now each of us is to walk worthy of the calling to which we are called. For every calling and for every person the following main rules apply: humility, meekness, longsuffering, forbearing one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Just a little arrogance, just a little impatience and impetuosity can spoil things for a long time.
Each and every one of us must do what we can to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, where such unity has been achieved. If this unity and peace have worn thin, it will be no easy task to reestablish them. Let us therefore tread carefully. However, if there should be a break in the unity and the bond of peace, each one must be diligent to forgive quickly and be good and merciful (verse 32), then the damage can be mended and the fellowship and the peace reestablished.
