The Fruit of the Light
“...for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.” Verses 9-10.
Everyone bears fruit of one kind or another. In the darkness one does works of the flesh, such as “fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit, envy, drunkenness, carousing and the like.” Galatians 5:19-21. But in the light one will bear the fruit of the Spirit, which is “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” Verse 22.
Consider the difference. Every one of us belongs to one of these two main groups, yet even within each group the difference can be quite pronounced. But the general rule is that a good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and an evil tree cannot bear good fruit. We would have to say that when a person is in darkness, the tree is evil; but when he has passed from darkness to light and goes on to walk in this light, the tree is good.
Time is passing; the years are rolling by. Think about it, dear soul. Are you bearing bad fruit or good fruit? People should be able to see by your fruit whether you are good or evil. Our deeds will follow us beyond death and the grave, and each and every one of us will give account for them on the day of resurrection.
