Christ as Light

Ephesians

Christ as Light

“Therefore it is said, ‘Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.’” Verse 14.

Jesus was born under the law in order to redeem those who were under the law. The light must be adjusted according to one’s condition. A person under the law cannot bear the light of the power of the resurrection. The light that Jesus cast as a man under the law is more than enough to judge them. That’s why it is written that those who sin under the law shall be judged by the law, and that those who sin without law shall perish outside the law. Yet we are not without law before God, but under the law to Christ.

For the one who by the law is dead to the law, Christ enlightens the inner ways with the light of His resurrection power. He manifests Himself as the perfect law of liberty within the body, in order that our development in Him shall not be by constraint, but wholly voluntary. All development and growth in freedom toward the perfect is so much more precious than if it were by force. Let us therefore look into the perfect law of liberty and continue in it. Let us investigate these laws of liberty and see whether there are things we can put off, things that weigh us down and easily ensnare us. Christ shall shine for you as the Lord and Protector of liberty—Himself the most excellent of all people and foremost of all laws. For this law was not given for transgressors but for those who resolutely pursue perfection.

Simeon says of Him that He is a light for revelation to the Gentiles. (Luke 2:32.) We have experienced this with His light, which He has caused to shine in our hearts as revelation.
