On the slippery slope
We will here take things a bit further into the wider development, to see where this teaching leads into further deception. When they do things that should be judged, but through their doctrine they exclude this judgment, then the continuation will be: “Such things are permissible.” Thus, one of them said a short time ago: “Now I have come to this result that there is nothing more to be called sin.” So, you can do what you want without worrying about the consequences. Everything is permissible! This is the further development of the doctrine. In those days, Aksel was a bit afraid of the extremism which for some years had been manifest in the most terrible forms, [and look at what has developed over the last 100 years, and what has become accepted in society today!] Things develop by degrees; just a couple of steps further and people are there. Furthermore, when those who are saved do what the world does, the doctrine develops further: when there is no difference between us and the world, we conclude that everyone is saved. The difference is only that we know if we are saved, the world does not know. Already, several leaders among the free churches in Norway have stated that they believe that everyone is saved. “But we mustn’t speak about this publicly,” is what is expressed.
The leaven is working, and the precursors to the great falling away already exist as a tragic, yes, heart-rending fact.
The teaching that the body of sin (the indwelling sin) is removed is satanic. It ends sooner or later in apostasy—the falling away.
Now we also understand why people talk so much about love, but little about righteousness. Love is placed in contradiction to the truth. To let the light of truth shine into this folly is seen as unloving, when there arises division and strife, and when there are such results of the truth as division and strife, then this is unloving! But blessed are those who break out of this confusion. People say, we must not look at each other and get confused. Yes, in truth, those who are in the midst of these things can be confused by looking at each other. But those who go straight ahead in the normal track, they on the contrary take heed to each other to help one another. How could they help if they did not pay attention to each other for good? But often, people take heed to each other for evil.
It is better to be like a small stump with deep roots, so it can stand in the storms of temptation, than to be like a tall tree without roots, which falls when the flood comes, and how great is that fall.
