They Came to Bethlehem at the Beginning of the Barley Harvest

Now Naomi, as well as her hands, were empty. In this wretched state the Lord led them to the house of bread at the beginning of the barley harvest. Oh, how infinite is God’s wisdom and love! It makes life worth living when you are along from the very beginning of the barley harvest, for there is much to do in God’s fields. The apostle says that we are God’s co-workers, and that you are God’s field. It is urgent for these precious treasures and jewels to be gathered in from the beginning of the barley harvest. And Ruth was to be part of the entire harvest. What a fortunate soul!

Wasted time is wasted treasures, but time well spent makes a soul rich. Slothfulness casts a soul into deep sleep, and an idle person will suffer hunger (Prov. 19:15), but a diligent person will increase his goods.
