Chapter 2 - A Kinsman, a Mighty Man
Jesus is the mightiest Man of all among all the mighty men. He says, “All things have been delivered to Me by My Father . . . . Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matt. 11:27-28.
Who among all the mighty men can say, “Come to me and I will give you rest”? There is not one, not a single one who can do that. Only Jesus Christ is able to give peace and rest. He is truly a mighty Man, born in Bethlehem, and Prince over the house of bread. He was our kinsman while we were still in the world, but now we love Him and rely on Him as the mightiest Man of all. He is our dearly beloved Bridegroom, and we are His bride.
We can confidently come to Him in all our need and find grace and help at the right time. He answers us before we pray. He is a safe refuge for each one who trusts in Him. All things have been given to Him by the Father, so how could we not inherit all things together with Him? He will satisfy you if you are hungry; He will quench your thirst. He will clothe you if you are naked. Call upon Him in time of need and He will help you, and you will praise Him. He is the Lord of glory—God’s wisdom.
It is good to be friends with a rich, mighty, and generous man in this world, if you need help. But think of being a friend of the One who owns all the silver and gold, to whom has been given all power in heaven and on earth. Besides having helped you in every possible way in this life, He has also prepared a place for you in the life to come.
Do you pray to Him? Do you believe in Him? Are you staying close to Him? Are you cultivating an intimate relationship with Him? Are you the apple of His eye? Do you sense that you are that? Are you receiving what you are praying for? Is He your kinsman to the extent that you entrust Him with your small daily concerns? Have you tried praying to this mighty Man about the smallest matters?
There are many mighty men who are far away, but they are not acquainted with your innermost concerns. Not so with Jesus. He is mighty, because He knows you better than you know yourself. He knows what you are lacking, and He possesses in abundance what your soul needs. He is a mighty Man and a just Man, because He inquires into the concerns of the lowly and vindicates those who are in the right.
