Do Not Go to Glean in Another Field

Boaz had the right grasp of the situation when he said, “Hear, my daughter, do not go to glean in another field.” It takes a certain amount of God’s wisdom, and experience, before we learn to give a beginner such thorough instructions. Boaz knew that God’s field yields food from God that is enjoyed with blessing and God’s peace. All other fields give rise to corruption, since Satan sows his poisonous seed in them.

Boaz was a mighty man. Ruth would be safe in his field. He did not seek to exploit Ruth for his personal gain. She would have had to work for her ears in another field, but here she received them free of charge. Only someone who does not make demands can love in truth. Boaz was a servant of God in spirit and in truth; therefore God arranged it in such a way that upright Ruth was led to his field. It is not God’s desire that a person who is true in his innermost heart should fall into the hands of shepherds who seek their own. Oh, if only all the shepherds in our days knew where to find God’s field and could help others to find it. On the contrary, more often than not they warn against God’s field and recommend their own field that is filled with thorns and thistles. In God’s field there is life and abundance, but death is at work in all other fields.
