See the Field Which They Reap, and Go After Them

Verse 9

First Boaz said, “Hear!” Then he said: “See!”

That is the right way to do it. When it concerns the soul’s inner walk with God, He first pierces the ear and explains to the soul the position he should occupy. Once the soul has been thoroughly trained in what he has heard, God goes one step further; He anoints the soul’s eyes and says, “See!”

Now the soul has received so much from God through hearing that he can find his way by seeing. “See the field which they reap, and go after them.” Ruth picked up these words with her ears and received an order as to how she should see and what she should look for. Everything proceeds from the ear, since it first comes to the ear. God’s wisdom had now begun to flow into her heart. Ruth had to take part in the harvest and see the rich returns of the work done in the spring. She was to go after the others and learn from them. The day would also come for Ruth when she would break new ground and harvest fruit from her life; therefore it was necessary for her to learn the right way of doing it.

We are to wear out the steps of the doors of those men who harvest their fruits with wisdom, who capture souls and lead them into God’s barn. Be along in this work; do not go ahead, but follow after and pay close attention. You will find everything prepared in God’s field, because all the works have been prepared beforehand and are ready from time immemorial. Eph. 2:10.
