The Book of Ruth

Naomi Took the Child and Laid Him on Her Lap, and She Became His Nurse

Verse 16

Naomi had been like a mother to Ruth, and now she had guided her steps to a place of rest. Naomi’s work with Ruth had come to an end, and in the future Ruth was to be obedient to her husband, Boaz. Naomi was not like the foolish mothers-in-law who stretch out their arms to the places of rest and cause unrest. She was far too wise and understanding for that.

Now she had a son on his lot of inheritance. She had received in rich measure what her soul had desired. She took the little one on her lap and became his nurse. He could not have had a better nurse.

Blessed is each soul who receives such a good nurse in his young, spiritual life.
