Power to Always Be Good
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Rom. 12:21. “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” We read this wonderful promise in Rom. 8:37.
In the verses before, Paul writes about many situations that seem difficult from a human perspective, yet he is actually referring to every challenge we can face in life—without exception—all of which we can overcome. “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Rom. 8:38-39.
“Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Cor. 12:10. That is how it is when God’s power is within me. Then I can endure sufferings and temptations with patience and always overcome.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God.” 2 Tim. 1:7-8. This is not a fairy tale nor a fantasy, but it is the promise of God to us through His word.
Now it is our task to believe God’s word and to fulfill the conditions for receiving God’s power in our lives. 2 Chron. 16:9 “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.” A loyal heart that is wholly for Him means: “not my will, but Yours be done!” Then we will have all the power we need to always be good. 2 Cor. 6:4-10.
