Where Is Your Faith?

Where Is Your Faith?

Luke 8:24-25. “And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, ‘Master, Master, we are perishing!’ Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. But He said to them, ‘Where is your faith?’”

Where is your faith? That was the first question Jesus asked, immediately and directly, when the disciples found themselves in a storm and were in unrest. I can also be asked the same question when I find myself in all kinds of circumstances and trials. Where is my faith? At that moment, do I have an unshakable faith in God’s guidance and plan in everything? Do I believe that all things can work for my good? Do I believe that God’s word can do a work in me?

When Jesus walked with the disciples on the road to Emmaus, He said “you foolish ones,” referring to their sluggishness and unbelief regarding what had happened. Luke 24:25-27. “Then He said to them, ‘O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?’ And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.”

Jesus opened their eyes to see the purpose of trials—namely, that through suffering we are to come to His glory. He connected their thoughts to the word of God and God’s plan. God’s plan for my life is that I can come to glory through suffering, that the word can become effective in me, and that through the obedience of faith I can partake of the life of Jesus. Through faith and many tribulations we enter the kingdom of God.

When I encounter trials, sluggishness can easily come over me. That is when human thoughts with questions of “why?” can easily creep in. Then I can allow time and opportunities to pass me by. Where, then, is my faith? I need my thoughts and my mind to be enlightened. I can overcome this sluggishness by binding my thoughts directly to the word of God by faith.

Heb. 4:2-3. “For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. For we who have believed do enter that rest.”

We are called to enter into His glory and His rest. In order to enter into rest, I must melt together with the word of God by faith. Then I can enter into His rest and His glory. By faith in the word of God and His power, the word can do a work in me. By faith, I can melt together with words such as: “Do not worry about your life”, and “casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” The important thing then is not to be sluggish or allow time and opportunities to pass by in unbelief, but rather to immediately have a living faith in the word of God and His power. Then, through the obedience of faith, I can partake of the life of Jesus and His glory. Then I enter into rest.
