Thanks, Jesus, You life’s way here opened
When through the veil of flesh You went.
No force on earth can block this pathway.
/: Through suff’rings You the veil have rent. :/

We must seek out the Master’s footsteps
By taking up our cross each day.
We humbly yield, yes, we are willing;
/: We’ll die to self and go life’s way. :/

Upon the cross Christ died to save us—
Right unto death, obedient.
Thus Jesus Christ became the firstfruits—
/: Then those who follow where He went. :/

Not to be served, but as a servant
The Son of Man, our Master, came.
He gave Himself; He laid His life down
/: To set us free from sin and shame. :/

If we do not draw back from suff’ring,
Then in God’s glory we’ll partake.
Don’t look behind you; don’t stop going—
/: Such in God’s kingdom have no stake. :/

Though we must pass through many waters,
We will not perish in the surge.
When we through fiery trials are taken,
/: We’ll with no smell of smoke emerge. :/
