“That Jesus Is the Christ”

What does it mean that Jesus is the Christ? Quite simply, that He who was descended from David according to the flesh, who was born of a woman and likewise partook of the same flesh as hers and ours, was the holy and mighty Son of God, God’s Anointed One who had existed from eternity past. 1 John 5:1.

It means that the mighty Son of God, by whom all things were created, came in the flesh for our sakes, in order that sin might be condemned (other translations: be overcome, receive its sentence) there.

“By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God.” 1 John 4:2, 2:22, as well as 2 John 7.
