Like Adam Before the Fall?
Adam before the Fall was immortal! So it is not enough that Jesus “likewise” partook of the same flesh; but “He had to be made like His brethren in all things.” He was obliged to, in order to be able to die at all! For unless He died, there would have been no atonement or salvation.
In complete agreement with the previous and following verses, the English Bible (Authorized, King James Version) of Hebrews 2:16 reads: “For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.”
Jesus did not come into the world for the sake of angels. Had that been the case, He would have clothed Himself with the nature of angels—“angel flesh.” Nor was it for the sake of “Adam before the Fall.” It would have been too late. He came for the sake of all those who have come from the loins of Adam after the Fall. Therefore, He took upon Himself our flesh and blood, that of Moses, Abraham, Jesse, David, and the Virgin Mary.
It was the seed of the woman that was to crush the Serpent’s head! It had to be someone with flesh and blood like ours who was to be victorious! Otherwise it would not have been truly her seed that had crushed Satan’s might. It would only have been “after a fashion.” But what God says and does, He does in truth.
