“Though He Was a Son”
In this very word “though” (even though, despite the fact that) lies the answer to that nagging question concerning Christ manifested in the flesh. This “though” shows that the apostle was aware that one might possibly conclude that Christ, because He was God’s Son, and because He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, did not have our sin in His flesh, and thus did not have to fight so hard or learn anything.
In order to clear up any such misunderstanding, he writes: “Who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.” Heb. 5:7-9.
